What is the Clothes Closet?
The Clothes Closet is a service project conducted by the Round Rock Council of PTAs which provides gently used clothing as well as new socks and underwear to RRISD students.  There are opportunities to donate clothing to the closet and to serve at distribution centers.

How did Clothes Closet Begin?
Read this brief history on how the program began in 1976.

Who qualifies to receive services of the Clothes Closet?
Vouchers good for 1 school year are issued by school nurses to families in need.  The need may be ongoing or temporary.  Families with children in multiple schools will require signed forms from each school nurse.  A nurse may not sign a form for a child attending another RRISD school.

What do the Clothes Closet customers receive?
Each student receives 5 tops, 5 bottoms (jeans, pants, skirts, shorts or dress), 1 sweatshirt, 5 new pairs of underwear & 5 pairs of socks.

How does the Clothes Closet obtain donations of clothing and new socks and underwear for its customers?
Clothes are donated by District families through their local schools.  Donations can be left with the school nurse and our Clothes Closet coordinator will pick them up and take them to the Voigt location as needed.  Local PTAs also contribute monetary donations to the RRISD Council of PTAs to support the Clothes Closet.  These funds are used to purchase garments. Monetary donations are also accepted and receipts are available.

Who staffs the Clothes Closet?
Each Clothes Closet shift is staffed by a RRISD Council of PTAs rep, who serves as the shift leader.  Clothes Closet coordinators and/or designated volunteers from each school are also asked to help one shift per month.

What are the responsibilities of each Clothes Closet coordinator?
1) Each rep is to ensure that their school send volunteers to cover their school's assigned shift.
The operation of the Clothes Closet depends solely on volunteers.  During the 2 hour shift, volunteers will unpack and hang clothing, help out behind the counter, assist customers with their selections and answer any questions.
2) Publicize the Clothes Closet and the need for donations at school.
Communicate the clothing needs throughout the year.  Coordinate clothing drives based on the needs in our community.
3) Sorts and launders clothing donations prior to delivering them to the Clothes Closet.
4) Arranges delivery of donations during hours of operation.
